TheoSophia Editorial Policy - Editorial Guidelines

To publish four issues of the magazine in the first week of March, June, September and December with the option of looking at a bi-monthly publication in the future.

The annual calendar for TheoSophia needs to be followed so that certain items appear each year when required by the Society's rules and to keep members informed.

Generally speaking, articles should not be over 1500 words. Longer articles approved for publication should be edited down.

Articles should not be continued over two issues.

Technical articles, e.g. articles on science, should be reviewed by one or more members or specialists in that field.

Articles and other contributions should be acknowledged on receipt, and writers advised when a decision has been made by the editorial committee regarding publication.

Editorial alterations, except very minor ones, should be approved by the writer unless prior permission has been given to edit. If editorial changes are required, items will be returned to the writer for checking. Text should be gender neutral where appropriate and contributions may be edited to reflect this.

Bearing in mind that there is a wide range of members within the New Zealand Theosophical Society, a variety of material should be provided in the magazine, eg, longer articles, human interest pieces, medium length items, shorter items such as book/video/CD reviews, etc.

The society's events and activities need to be promoted and reported on regularly, eg, tours of international and national speakers, national conventions, society-organised events such as the annual School of Theosophy, the activities of the HQ Library, developments in the field of theosophical education and any other relevant items of note. Regular communication of this nature with the members is important.

Lodges/regions/branches/study groups need to be encouraged to provide information about their activities for the magazine, so that special events can be shared.

As we are part of an international organisation, information about special overseas events should be provided.

Letters to the editor are accepted at the discretion of the editor or editorial committee and a disclaimer will be included in each edition.
