South-East Asia Tsunami Relief Fund

Arrangements are now in place for making donations that will assist the Theosophical Society at Adyar, and particularly the Theosophical Order of Service (TOS) there, in the relief work they are doing to help with the devastation in the Chennai coastal district, which surrounds Adyar.

What has the TOS been doing?

Some 2000 homeless people are being accommodated at the TS Olcott School. According to Pedro Oliviera, President of the Indo-Pacific Federation of the TS, "the TOS-Chennai Region is very active collecting donations for the victims, particularly in order to buy essential medical supplies aimed at avoiding the tangible risk of infectious diseases". He asks that, because the suffering is widespread and many lives are at risk, "the present appeal be expedited at the earliest opportunity".

There are 3 main ways to make a donation: Direct Credit, Cheque and Bank deposit.

If you want a receipt, please include your name and address on a slip of paper or on the back of the envelope, and say so. All sizes of donation are welcome.

3 Bank Deposit

Go to any Westpac branch and make a deposit to:

If you want a receipt, please email Graham Eden at  treasurer@theosophy.org.nz

with your address and amount donated, and TOS will post you one. IRD will not accept a bank receipt for this because it won't have the organisation's name (TS) on it. That is the case with Westpac receipts, anyway.

Donations will all go into the bank account named above, and the National Treasurer for the TS in NZ, Graham Eden, will send the proceeds in a telegraphic transfer to Adyar just before Convention. He has used this channel before, for TOS donations, so it is proven. Another transfer will be made some time after Convention, for donations that arrive later. All sizes of donation are welcome.

Receipts, for those who have requested them, will be issued as soon as possible after Convention.

You can include this donation in your next Tax Return for a rebate if you have a receipt. The bank account above is a sub account of the TS in NZ which has donor status for tax purposes, so your receipt will be recognised.

Regarding accountability, John Vorstermans has stated that Diana Dunningham-Chapotin will produce a detailed report on how the donated money was spent.
